About our home on Austin Road and Hatteras Village

THANK YOU to all our guests. For many families, this is your fourth, fifth year and some have spent every season with us. We can’t say thank you enough.

We hope you enjoy your stay.

After 20 years of renting cottages on Hatteras Island, we decided to buy our own. Hatteras Village or “the Village”, is a special place for us and we hope you find it special too. We knew other families would want a home that welcomes their dog on a quiet street with a pool. After looking around the village for the perfect spot, we finally found Austin Road where we could build our own. The views of the sound, the ocean and beam from the light house at night made this little piece of Hatteras our happy place.

To help you find what you need while you are here, we put this site and HatterasInfo.com together.  The Village is not full of hustle and bustle, many of us refer to it as the end of the earth. Once you put your things away and sit down in a deck chair on the porch or by the pool in the bright Hatteras sun, you might begin to think a drive even to Frisco is just too far to go. There are however, many kind and friendly people who run the stores and restaurants here in “the Village” and all throughout the Island who can get you what you need.

About our neighborhood

Most of our neighbors are Austin’s as the road sign says.  The family has lived here a long time and used to run a commercial fishing business here. Most are now retired from the US Navy, Coast Guard, Merchant Marine and NC Ferry system as you can imagine folks who grew up on the water would be.

The creek that comes up to the road once went all the way back to Durant Station, the site of the large condo you can see down NC 12. The Coast guard used to bring supplies up on barges to the lifesaving station through what is now our yard. Later on, the lifesaving station was the site where General Billy Mitchell built his airfield to prefect airborne ship bombardment.

Please respect our neighbors. Yes, there are horses in the paddock next to the house behind the pool but please don’t walk over.  You might see them ride down the road early morning, they’ll be happy to say hello then. Most folks here work early hours so please don’t park in the driveway in front of the house so they can get out in the morning. ~ Thank you
